BUSY IN THE GARDEN

From the DVD In the Garden this 10minute movie titled BUSY IN THE GARDEN has some great vignettes of the things we do in the garden:

*Especially the Aussie BBQ

Other activities are mowing the lawn, hanging out washing on an old  rotary clothesline, a girl on an old rope and plank swing, a girl watering, feeding the chooks, gardening, a toddler learning to walk and falling on the grass

Also on this DVD is VISITORS TO MY GARDEN (a slide-show) which includes a possum and kangaroo

MAKING PAVLOVA

From the DVD Oranges and Lemons this 8minute movie titled MAKING PAVLOVA is very relaxing and shows step-by-step the making and decorating of a pavlova. Relaxing classical music

A longer vignette is on the main movie with slightly faster classical music

MEMORY BOXES

Turn a generic
Share-Time Pictures' movie
into a personal experiencefor your care-recipient/s

A Memory Box provides the opportunity for tactile sensory
experiences of items viewed and holding the item and image
allows a closeness, the ability to see more image detail, smell the item,
feel the texture and assists familiarity and recognition.

SUGGESTIONS
FOR CREATING A THEMED MEMORY BOX

1. Watch the movie first yourself

2. Make note of interesting and appropriate subjects, tools, fabrics, etc., that your care-recipient/s will identify with

3. Collect and arrange these in a box or basket - Make sure the box is a comfortable size for placing on a lap and that the sides are not too high.
Discomfort will quickly lead to disinterest. Select items that are easily to hold and not heavy

4. Add something that is personal to your care-recipient, something that is on the theme and may be of significance.
    - Maybe an old photo similar to one from the DVD
    - Or something from their past related to the theme
    - Perhaps a favourite flower from the theme

5. Include one or two film stills from the movie form the available resources
    - a themed weekly calender
    - a visual aid download
    - a poster or print

6.  Depending on your Care-recipient, include the themed DVD jacket and disc and discuss old and new technology

7. View the themed DVD movie with your care-recipient/s - Then open and share the themed Memory Box

A Tip:  Create Memory Boxes for each of our themed DVDs and regular themes your have throughout the year.
          - Large shoe-boxes are ideal and can be covered with themed paper, paint or images.
          - Many of the items can be left in the box for next viewing
          - Keep a note in the box of everyday items that need to be re-added to save time next time or missing an item
